00:00:00.060 --> 00:00:05.100
>> I always like having a voice, you know, when
you actually step up and put yourself forward.

00:00:05.100 --> 00:00:09.450
You don't want to think being overly
confident of your own abilities.

00:00:09.450 --> 00:00:13.840
But I've seen some decisions that politicians
have made in the past that I wasn't pleased with

00:00:13.840 --> 00:00:16.380
and I didn't feel comfortable just sitting back

00:00:16.380 --> 00:00:19.740
and complaining unless I
put myself up to the gain.

00:00:19.740 --> 00:00:23.960
So, I was able to, you know, be
successful in getting elected.

00:00:23.960 --> 00:00:27.200
But the other side of that coin is, now
that I am the one making the decision,

00:00:27.200 --> 00:00:30.890
those people who are now complaining have
an opportunity to call and talk to me.

00:00:30.890 --> 00:00:33.150
So, I spend a lot of time
on the phone and speaking

00:00:33.150 --> 00:00:35.070
with different groups and
people around the city.

00:00:35.070 --> 00:00:37.250
>> I'm sure you get a lot
of free advice, don't you?

00:00:37.250 --> 00:00:38.130
>> I get a bunch of advice.

00:00:38.130 --> 00:00:41.460
And it's not that I object to that at all.

00:00:41.460 --> 00:00:45.710
In fact, being in that same
position a few years ago, I'm glad,

00:00:45.710 --> 00:00:47.700
you know, to take the time to listen.

00:00:47.700 --> 00:00:52.340
Now, my wife won't go with me to the grocery
store anymore because I get pigeonholed there,

00:00:52.340 --> 00:00:54.360
and we talk about things and we never get done.

00:00:54.360 --> 00:00:56.970
But that's just part of being
an elected official.
