00:00:00.360 --> 00:00:04.750
>> Batch 8560: My name is Don Macklemore
and I am Director of Industry Relations

00:00:04.750 --> 00:00:07.780
and Economic Development at
Georgia Southern University.

00:00:07.780 --> 00:00:17.350
It could be anything from a contact with
potential industry partner who's looking

00:00:17.350 --> 00:00:25.270
for resources to help support their growth
patterns or innovations resources to engaging

00:00:25.270 --> 00:00:29.450
with a local economic development
agency somewhere in the,

00:00:29.450 --> 00:00:35.400
across the state of Georgia particularly
in the coastal region of Georgia working

00:00:35.400 --> 00:00:41.690
with grad students and conduct
of research, working with faculty

00:00:41.690 --> 00:00:46.410
and helping them find research
opportunities, so it's a pretty broad spectrum.

00:00:46.410 --> 00:00:59.010
Busy day might start in Savannah with an
innovative enterprise speaking with, you know,

00:00:59.010 --> 00:01:04.860
their leadership about what their needs
are, it might move from there to a classroom

00:01:04.860 --> 00:01:10.950
and doing a lecture on what it means to
be in the chemical industry and, you know,

00:01:10.950 --> 00:01:17.270
what are the aspects, what's the marriage
of science and technology with business

00:01:17.270 --> 00:01:23.510
to holding a meeting with campus
leadership on intellectual property matters.

00:01:23.510 --> 00:01:27.670
Now let's see how would I end a day like that?

00:01:27.670 --> 00:01:37.190
I might end a day like that with a phone
call from a startup company that's struggling

00:01:37.190 --> 00:01:45.080
with some science and engineering issues and
then, you know, maybe ending the day working

00:01:45.080 --> 00:01:52.040
on a proposal with one of our
corporate partners to make sure

00:01:52.040 --> 00:01:54.760
that we've got things moving at momentum.

00:01:54.760 --> 00:02:05.080
No, it's not a 9 to 5 and so, yeah
the priorities of allocating time

00:02:05.080 --> 00:02:10.320
and like balance are something that
hopefully I've learned over a period of time.

00:02:10.320 --> 00:02:14.530
I do reserve the right to have
fun and fortunately, you know,

00:02:14.530 --> 00:02:20.930
what I do during the day is a lot of fun,
but no I have family, I have hobbies,

00:02:20.930 --> 00:02:27.300
and I have to be certain that with myself
that I dedicate some time to does things

00:02:27.300 --> 00:02:29.830
and make those a priority as well.
